St John Shopping Event and Informal Fashion Show

Local fans of the luxury retailer St. John Knits were treated to a recent informal fashion show at the Liberty Hotel, featuring pieces of the new Caviar collection and the spring collection, as well as a special private shopping event at the Boylston St. boutique. It was done to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer and to raise funds for Ovations for the Cure, a charity that fights ovarian cancer through education, research and patient support.
The relationship between Ovations for the Cure and the St. John boutique in Boston had a very modest beginning. The founder of Ovations, the late and much beloved Patricia Franchi Flaherty was a regular customer there for over 10 years. St. John was more than happy to contribute to Mrs. Flaherty's cause in any way and since her passing, the luxury retailer has sponsored this special shopping event where 10% of the proceeds went to her charity.
At the shopping event, guest were treated to champagne, caviar and a little informal modeling. Guest got a closer look of the new Caviar line that features a selection of chic, modern and easy pieces in fine wool knit that easily transitions from day to evening and can be the foundation of any St John wardrobe.
Local former newscaster and entertainment reporter Joyce Kulhawick also made a surprise appearance. She herself is twice an ovarian cancer survivor and a friend to Mrs. Flaherty. Mrs. Kulhawick is an avid supporter of Ovations for the Cure as well as other cancer charities.
The event was a success for both St. John and Ovations for the Cure so there will indeed be future collaborations. Ovations for the Cure has more fashion fundraisers planned for the year. Designer Carmen Marc Valvo will present a special retrospective fashion show in May and there will be a fashion show with luxury shoe designer Stuart Weitzman in September. These events are not to be missed and I advise those interested to attend and to help support this great cause.
