Eleanor's Affair Featuring
Denise Hajjar Spring 2009 Collection

by Ian L.

The luxurious Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel was the setting for the first Eleanor's Affair, a fundraiser for the ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter. Eleanor's Affair is named after Eleanor Gehrig, the wife of Baseball Legend Lou Gehrig. Eleanor's enduring love and commitment for her husband during his years of illness prompted the members of the ALS Association to name the fundraiser in her honor.

Eleanor's Affair not only serves as a means to raise much needed funds and resources for people with ALS and their caregivers but it also serves as an awards ceremony for those caregivers, who's efforts are greatly needed but often go unnoticed.

Recognized for their tireless efforts in assisting those with ALS are caregivers Jen Hill, Anne Lawrence, Cynthisa Mazareas, Maura Muldoon, Barbara Padilla, Margo Potheau, Nora Morales Rivas, Sandy Desrosiers, and Elaine Smallwood.

Funds were raised by silent auction and live auction as well as ticket sales. Items that drew the most bids included a Bermuda Vacation at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, a signed Basketball by the 2009 Boston Celtics, and a weekend trip to San Francisco at the Golden Gate Hotel.

Local designer Denise Hajjar was more than happy to partner with The ALS Association. Denise has always made it a priority to give back though charity. In the past, she has helped rise funds for The Home for Little Wanderers, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and many other various organizations.

Denise Hajjar's showing of her Spring 2009 collection was easily the highlight of the evening.  There was a variety of casual wear and evening wear fashions on display. The overall look was feminine, classic and chic. Designs worthy of note were boldly colored dress with geometric and floral prints, silky bias cut evening gowns in red, green and yellow, and a small mix of animal print blouses and coats. Also worthy of mention were a gorgeous range of handbags from glittery clutches for evening and lizard print bags for day.

All of Denise Hajjar's collection is available at her boutique in the lobby of The Fairmont Copley Plaza. She is the designer in residence, offering unique fashions to the many high end travelers that frequent the hotel.
