The School of Fashion Design at Natick Collection
by Ian L.
This has been a busy year for Boston's own School of Fashion Design. This year is the School's 75th anniversary and the graduate fashion show in May was a fantastic occasion for all those involved. Five of the recent graduates were chosen to present capsule collections of their work at Natick Collection as part of the Form to Fashion Series where local area Colleges with fashion design programs showcase the works of their students in a space in front of Neiman Marcus. Each College is given a month where they can show their best talents.
For their entry in the month of June, the School of Fashion Design chose recent graduates Jessica Lee, Kira Lyn McClellan, Victoria Dominguez, Kelly Higgins and Kae Bae. Victoria and Kelly are hoping to gain more experience by working with established designers or manufacturers before starting their own lines. Kira McClellan is more interested in costume design than fashion, so she's hoping to intern with a local opera or theatre company. Kae Bae is planning a move to Connecticut where she intends to develop her clothing line but is debating whether to enter the Boston market or the more competitive New York market.
In case you've missed the opportunity to see the capsule collections at Natick Collection, the graduates along with other students from the School of Fashion Design will show their work this October at the "Runway Gala". It's a special benefit and fashion show competition for the Faulkner-Sagoff Center hosted by Gretta Monahan. Don't miss it.
