Fashion Boston Kickoff Party for
Boston Fashion Week 2009

by Ian L.

It's become a bit of a tradition for a few years now as Boston's most fashionable get ready for the latest Boston Fashion Week, to start things off with the Fashion Boston Kickoff Party. Special guests were invited to a secret location in the South End to enjoy a fun filled evening of drinking, dancing and dining on hors d'oeuvres.

Guest arrived to a courtyard filled with models wearing the latest fashions from Ralston in front of a giant projection of logos from host Fashion Boston and co-host and sponsor W Boston.

The forth floor was transformed into a fashion oasis with one room filled with curtains and decorated with topiary, candles, a wide screen TV and luxury handbags. Another room brought out your inner designer as guest drew on white paper some creative fashion illustrations. Dress forms in each end of the room, draped with muslin patterns helped to provide some inspiration.

The best room would have to be the dance floor where guest were treated to live musical performances by Kay Hanley. Kay just flew in from L.A. but she looked fabulous in a dress provided by local designer Daniela Corte.

Some of Boston's best designers were at the party to relax and have some fun before their upcoming shows. Designers Sam Mendoza, Daniela Corte and Nirva took to the dance floor while designers Samuel Vartan, Denise Hajjar, Michael De Paulo, Cibeline Soriano, Catalina De La Torre, and Lauren Kacyvenski of Lily and Migs mingled with guests. Samuel Vartan could really relax as his show at the Liberty Hotel was completed a week earlier.

Alexandra Hall, editor for Fashion Boston and hostess for the evening wore two outfits, one for dancing and one for interviews and greeting guests. She made sure that everyone was having a great time. Also at the party was local favorite Gretta Monahan who took a little time away from filming her shows to take part in Boston Fashion Week events.

All in all, Fashion Boston and W Boston put together an amazing party. Everyone left with a sense of excitement for the rest of Boston Fashion Week. I can't wait to see they have in store for us next year. It will no doubt be absolutely fabulous.
