Ovations for the Cure presents:
CHIC with Michael De Paulo

by Ian Larraga

Ovations for the Cure is back with the foundation's second installment in it's new fashion show fundraiser program, CHIC. CHIC, which is an acronym for Cure Her in Couture, combines the glamour of a fashion show with the fun, cocktail party atmosphere of a small fundraiser. Ovations works with both top local designers, luxury hotels and luxury nightclubs to create a special experience for guests and VIP's that are willing to donate and raise funds for the cure, awareness and education of ovarian cancer.

This year's second Cure Her in Couture featured top local designer Michael De Paulo. Michael displayed a selection of his favorite pieces from his recent Spring 2010 collection on the lovely ladies of Dynasty Models. The amazing jewelry worn by the ladies was provided by A.M. Deprisco Jewelers in

Wellesley. Michael De Paulo creates the types of evening gowns that are easily a fit on the red carpets of New York and Hollywood. However, Michael wants to create more than just evening gowns. The young designer has already began to make bridal gowns for special order and as he tells me, there are future plans for a ready-to-wear line.

The location of the fashion show fundraiser was at the luxurious Back Bay Hotel. The building was once the former Boston Police headquarters but has since been renovated. The hotel is a top rated destination for guests staying in Boston and is right across the street from the Prudential Tower. Models walked between the VIP room and the open bar area just above the lobby. Hotel guests were also treated to small segments of the show.

The VIP room hosted a few of Michael De Paulo's good friends and ardent supporters. At the scene was Boston's own fashion doyenne and long time supporter Marilyn Riseman, wife of author Ben Mezrich and accessories designer Tonya Chen Mezrich, luxury hotel inspector Tiffany Dowd and channel 7 news anchor Frances Rivera. Tonya, Tiffany and Frances have often worn Michael De Paulo gowns to many local gala events. Also at scene were local designers Nirva Derbekyan and Sam Mendoza.

The second CHIC event was a great success as many guest had a wonderful time. Designer Michael De Paulo is heading off to do a few trunk shows at Saks nationwide. He will be back in June to show his first installation for the new fashion venue, Styleweek Providence. The next CHIC event will be in June and will feature designer Nirva with shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti. The location will be at the rooftop of Splash. Don't miss out on another fabulous event and please help support Ovations for the Cure.
